ORGANIC FOOD

Hello all,

In South Asia, most of the parents are unhappy with food in these days, they think it is impure. They have reservations regarding the growth of human foods; the chemical sprays and latest techniques to grow more food have destroyed their nutrient values. They think most of the diseases are due to the chemical sprays on fields that are difficult to remove even after a thorough wash. They used to say “Alas! Food was pure in our times”. This disappointment is due to the difference in techniques; once the vegetables and fruits were grown in organic fertilizers. No pesticide, no preservatives; all pure and natural.

Apart from going in depth, latest techniques are necessary for more food to fulfill the increasing requirement of growing population. This is a source to grow more and economical food for those having fewer resources. But we have not lost the chance; we still have it i.e. by growing our own organic food in our kitchen garden. We can do it on our own or can choose someplace all together for combine cultivation for few families. At home, you do not need many of pieces of equipment or techniques, all you require is some extra space and care. Organic vegetable and fruits are very easy to grow and good for health. They could be grown in pots and can be placed anywhere in sunlight or under shade. They can also be kept anywhere like the terrace, lawn, rooftop, laundry area, portable crates, portable shelves or a free space out of your house (if allowed).

Main and compulsory ingredients are healthy seeds (it can be replaced with seedlings from a nursery), pots, organic compost, the mixture of soil and sand, watering shower, a little patience, and passion. The last one is the most important for each and every step of growth. The Internet is full of small and effective ways of initial training. One should focus on organic ways such as organic pesticides, organic fertilizer, and watering techniques. The reason for some training is that different plants have different needs. Some require a lot of water; many needless, a lot need eight hours of sunlight but few are good in the shady area. Several are delicate to treat and fewer are rough and tough.

Do not worry about it, all requirements are manageable. If you have a shady area with less sunshine then pots can be placed on walls with hangings. Plants can be provided with artificial ways of sunlight (IR or UV lamps) or reflection can be made with mirrors (if possible). On the other hand, if there is a lot of sunshine all the day, one can cover the area with shade or garden net. You do not need expensive and stylish pots for kitchen gardening. Extra and cracked buckets, used ice cream containers or thermophore containers are also good for at least kitchen gardening. Every person has his own imaginations and is free to use his mind according to the place and resources. Even waste plastic bottles are being used after modification to grow mint and coriander leaves.

Once you get started, it will grab your attention with daily growth. I love the time when seedlings come out and raise their shoots out of the soil. Recently, I grew tomato and mint at my terrace, it was great and growth was so rapid and extra that we distributed some of them to our neighbors. These pictures are from my kitchen garden. It has less sunlight but I have managed the space. By the time, I have learned many techniques according to my ease. It is a friendly suggestion to all my readers that just for sake of one-time experience, everyone should try it. I am sure it will be a great hobby apart from a good and healthy food.

Best regards.

HOBBIES

Hello all,

Being human is unique because we are not restricted to make efforts for our appetite and sleep only but we have to feed our mind and soul for their refreshment. For this very reason, we have an urge to select some hobbies for self satisfaction. People around us have many hobbies such as games, cooking, gardening, keeping pets, hiking, socializing, gossips, chatting, movies and many more. Obviously android games are ahead of all and have made many people addicted.
Hobbies are necessary for us in order to spend our spare time in some positive way as we all know “Empty mind is a devil’s workshop”. With the change in our routines, many things have changed. Once tickets and coin collecting was a very popular hobby in many. In my school days, there was an old man sitting outside our school with three to four albums of tickets in his lap. Many boys including one of my friends, Asif, were keen to sit there and search for something new to elaborate their collections. There were commitments to bring more and unique stamps and exchange was also a routine. Many of them had so many, that they could exchange it with handsome amount of money but that was just a hobby and not for financial needs. I had also collected some of them but it never caught my interest. I had at that time collected some rare coins that were with me for long but after shifting two to three places, I have misplaced them.
Music has always been my passion, I never cared for the type of music and whatever attracted me was my favorite. Still my choice is same, I like classics of Mehdi Hassan, Iqbal Bano, Teena Sani, Fareeda Khanum, Manna Day and populars of Alamgir, Nazia Hassan, Zohaib, Junoon, Noori and many more. Film singers are countless like Madam Noor Jahan, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Nayyara Noor, Naheed Akhtar, Mehnaz, Shreya Ghoshal, Arijit Singh and many more. English songs were also in my favorite list but it discontinued right after my first job because there was no one to share and after some time, I left to hear them regularly. There are very few like, Boney M tracks, Last Christmas I gave you my heart, I just want to say I love you, Titanic’s Everytime, Waka Waka, Justin Bieber’s Baby etc. Being specified in music is difficult for me and all types help me to change my mood. I am never the type to listen sad songs in heavy mood but I always try to break the temper. “Ghazals” are only type of music that is not popular in people around me but I love to listen any time. My favorite are from Abida Perveen, Mehdi Hassan, Jagjeet Singh or Iqbal Bano. The most favorite form of music is “Sufi” and “Folk” both are popular internationally.
Gardening is a hobby that is identified mostly for retired persons but I took this interest from my late mother. She loved to gather some typical types of plants and trees in our home. There were Roses, Jasmine, Guava, Grapes and some vegetables in our kitchen garden. Afterwards, my friend Asif also polished my interest and I am still fond of gardening. It is a good use of spare time and also gives satisfaction when you see your hard work has become fruitful in shape of a beautiful flower, a lush green tree or with organic kitchen garden. Internet is a good tutor and any one can start it any time with all the tutorials available at YouTube or any other social site.
DIY’s (Do it yourself) are also very helpful in choosing new interests. People share their experience in a simple way and helping others to adapt new ideas. We should choose only specified and simple tutorials and try to avoid difficult ones in start. According to me, a difficult procedure will lose the interest of a beginner but a little time consuming idea will develop the curiosity. Lengthy procedures are helpful but in later stages.
Well, many of us already have their choices. Choose something different, few for self satisfaction, some for creation, many to relive your daily life and a lot for human betterment. Charity and welfare is also very helpful for inner satisfaction. There are many needy around us, looking for our attention, so try to come ahead. Choice is yours as it is your life.
Best regards.
